DJ VinNY Fiore (Vincent Fiore) is a self-taught electronic house DJ with over ten years of experience behind the decks at the most exclusive, music-driven events in NYC and Miami.
A history with graffiti makes him even more unique and anyone at a Musical Graffiti event can see how he ties house music and street art together by listening to his colorful, expressive sets. An undiscovered talent with a forward-thinking sound, he’s definitely someone to keep an eye on.
MUSICAL GRAFFITI
DJ VinNY Fiore launched his brand, Musical Graffiti, in 2002. Musical Graffiti is a personal culture that combines the two worlds of house music and street art. To him, that includes the never-ending pursuit for records, ink staining his hands and clothes, starting circles of dancers when he spins, long juicy drips of ink down subway tiles, hearing whistles from the crowd when he drops an anthem, sneaking around freight yards, making eye contact with fans during after-hours, passing around black books, the competition-it's all Musical Graffiti.
In addition to branding his parties, the first Musical Graffiti EP will be released in March 2009 at the Winter Music Conference in Miami. The EP will feature tracks named after each of the four major ink brands Vincent used during his graffiti days. A Podcast series under the same name is also available on vinnyfiore.com.
Vincent became enamored with graffiti by the age of ten. Under the alias SERE, he made an impact on the MTA N/R and B subway lines in Brooklyn, where some of his fill-ins landed on the movie “The Substitute, Part 2.”
Vincent continues to practice his hand and piecing skills. Visit vinnyfiore.com for a Graffiti Archive of his prized memorabilia, flicks and black book excerpts.
DISCOGRAPHY
DJ VinNY Fiore’s first release was an original vocal titled “Complicated” (No2 Records/Belgium & Sheeva Records/USA) and was distributed as a 12-inch at the 2007 Winter Music Conference in Miami. The upbeat single was featured on NY's The Pulse 87.7FM, the Dance Channel on Music Choice TV (the #2 most played song, summer 07) and in REMIX magazine's e-newsletter. Constantino "Mismaster" Padovano AKA Funky Junction was the executive producer on the project and landed remixes by 3 Speaker High, Keepers of Melody (Sergio Matina & Dario Assenzo), SplashFunk, Antony Reale, Maurizio Verbeni, and Matt Crosta & Jesse K.
Vincent followed up Complicated with a remix on SFR Recordings (Italy), then produced his first EP, Pink to Black, with Danny Inzerillo. The EP was released in 2008 by Milan-based Sergio Matina under his electro-flavored digital label Tendenzia.
Upcoming projects include a Musical Graffiti EP which will be released in March 2009 at the Winter Music Conference in Miami. The EP will feature tracks named after each of the four major ink brands: Flo-master, Garvey, Griffen and Marsh.
“My music reflects who I am: emotional, creative and unique. I'm influenced by artists like Nine Inch Nails and Tony Senghore but I never sit down with the intention of making a specific type of track. The sounds I choose express whatever emotions I happen to feel that day.”
DJ VinNY Fiore works at his home studio in Brooklyn on a Mac G5 using Logic and Ableton Live.
TRACK SELECTION AND PROGRAMMING
DJ VinNY Fiore doesn’t just play records. He drips with sweat as he dances and interacts with fans making him a DJ that's fun to watch. He infects the crowd with his unparalleled musical style by doing things on the fly to be creative and different. He even steps outside the booth to dance and be a part of the crowd, something he only saw from the very influential Danny Tenaglia.
“I live off the energy I get from executing extended flawless mixes," he says. "Nothing compares to the feeling of perfectly pulling off a risky mix.”
A typical set weaves in and out of multiple genres while he's constantly reading the crowd. He might start off with minimal, deep or tech house tracks similar to a Steve Lawler set to lay down a solid foundation that will later support a peak-hour tempo of electro, tech, and progressive house. He'll push the envelope to see how far the crowd will go but never loses sight of what makes a great party.
DJ VinNY Fiore's programming skills makes him the go-to house DJ for any kind of party, crowd or venue. In 2002, he joined forces with promoter Ronnie Z. to throw weekly parties with the best promotion companies in NYC including Area Event, Clique, and Velvet List. He's since played at almost every single major club and lounge in the city and his sets can be catered to a wide variety of audiences. He’s rocked nightclubs, underground after-hours, pool parties, lounges, restaurants, and even hip hop parties, retail stores and corporate events.
INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE
DJ VinNY Fiore lives and breathes house music day and night, from the business side working 9-5 to the dance floor at 2 AM on a Friday night. Not only has he held full-time jobs and internships, he's earned a post-graduate degree from the Institute of Audio Research, and has built his own reputation and fan base from the bottom up. On MySpace alone he has close to 100,000 profile views and 12,000 friends.
Vincent started clubbing in 1997 at NYC’s Expo, Limelight, Tunnel, Vinyl and Saturdays at the Sound Factory with Jonathan Peters. He purchased his first pair of turntables at Music Stop in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn two years later on November 22, 1999.
Since then, he's freelanced at Star 69 Records under label boss and Grammy winner Peter Rauhofer and worked closely with label manager Cortney Callanan and booking agent Mira Rashidzada to learn the nuts and bolts of how a successful record label is run. He interned at Red Music (a division of SONY Music), Nightlife Productions, and Mixer Magazine and even worked as an audio visual lighting technician for the Roxy, Crobar, and Spirit under Mike David.
REMEMBER THIS
In addition to producing and spinning music, Vincent writes his own blog and lyrics for his productions, puts out his own featured Podcast, charts music on a quarterly basis, designs his own logos, graphics and videos, manages his web site, distributes newsletters, posts on multiple industry message boards, and promotes his parties through cross promotions and sponsorships.
As someone who has clearly paid his dues, can wear multiple hats and has an international sound, Vincent's goal is to now be represented by a management agency who still believes in artist development and to sign with a booking agent who will bring him into the spotlight he deserves.
